Associate Professor in Tourism

The Department of Design and Communication at the University of Southern Denmark, Faculty of Humanities, invites applications for an Associate Professor in Tourism. The position is placed at the Kolding campus and is available from September 1, 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.


The Department of Design and Communication encompasses Design, International Business Communication, Information Studies, Library Science, Web Communication, and Tourism at the Faculty of Humanities (www.sdu.dk/idk).


Applicants will have a strong teaching and research record in tourism with proven, international excellence. Applicants will have expertise, competencies and skills matching the teaching and research portfolio of the Centre for Tourism, Innovation and Culture (TIC) and Department of Design and Communication. TIC is dedicated to co-design, innovation and sustainable tourism development. Tourism education and research at the University of Southern Denmark strive to transform the university into an engaged, collaborative institution with, and for society at large. We charter new territories in international academe and interdisciplinary research based on a strong foundation in the Humanities. Applicants must be at the associate professor level and committed to a culture of academic excellence and collaboration. The teaching obligations for this position will primarily be within the Erasmus Mundus European Master in Tourism Management programme and the Graduate programme in International Tourism and Leisure Management, but may also include teaching in other programmes.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Please check links for salary and taxation.


Appointment to this position may also include teaching obligations in regard to related degree programmes. If the successful applicant has not documented teaching experience corresponding to assistant professor level, the applicant will be employed on trial for the first 18 months.

Applicants for an associate professorship at the Faculty of Humanities are requested to submit a teaching portfolio with the application as documentation for teaching experience as well as supervision qualifications. Please read more here.


Application and all appendices must be in Danish, English or one of the Scandinavian languages. Please always include a copy of original diploma/certificates.


We only accept files in pdf-format no more than 10 MB per file. In case you have more than one file per field you need to combine the pdf-files into a single file, as each field handles only one file. We do not accept zip-files, jpg or other image files. All pdf-files must be unlocked and allow binding and may not be password protected.


Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee and the committee will assess whether you are qualified to be an Assistant Professor. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material.


When the assessment committee has submitted its report, the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her. The assessment report will subsequently be forwarded to the Head of Department who will assemble an appointments committee. An interview may form part of the overall assessment of the applicants qualifications.  


If the application does not meet the requirements mentioned above, the Faculty of Humanities may reject your application without further notice. Applications received after the deadline will neither be considered nor evaluated.


Shortlisting and tests may be used in the assessment process.
